Eco-Clothing Options
Many savvy consumers today are interested in eco-clothing. The types of materials used in products as well as how they are manufactured are becoming increasingly important to people. Designers are looking for ways to incorporate materials from sustainable resources.

Consumers should be on the lookout to support products that are organic, recycled, and created with as little waste as possible. Manufacturers must make more of a product once the demand increases for an alternative product. Many modern consumers eagerly seek products that are created with the intention of having a small carbon footprint.
Currently, however, eco-clothing enjoys only a tiny market share in the fashion industry — which means it could take several years for these products to go mainstream. Although it is more expensive than regular clothing, eco-clothing’s primary advantage is that it is stronger, of higher quality, and generally lasts longer.
There are a variety of kinds of eco-clothing on the market today. Most of these fashion items are made of natural materials, including organic cotton, bamboo, soy, leather alternatives, and others.
One common material used in the manufacturing of eco-clothing is bamboo fabric. A natural textile, it is made from the pulp of bamboo. It is a viable alternative fabric for clothing use because it is simultaneously strong and light.
Prior to being spun, bamboo fiber closely resembles cotton. Bamboo grass can grow fast and is generally grown without using insecticides. The process of making bamboo fiber doesn’t require chemicals or bleaches that can harm the environment.
Because bamboo grows very quickly, it can be replaced soon after it is harvested. Further, a plant that grows back soon after it is cut down helps maintain oxygen levels in the environment since all living plants produce oxygen.
Another type of eco clothing is clothing made from organic cotton. Similar to regular cotton, its organic counterpart is grown without the application of pesticides or chemical fertilizers. Because it replenishes well and allows the soil to maintain its fertility, growing organic cotton has a low impact on the environment. More cotton farmers are switching to organic methods as acceptance of organic cotton rises.
Eco-clothing can also be made from recycled fleece. This fabric is made from recycled soda bottles. Because it’s made from recycled materials, this is considered an environmentally friendly fabric even though it’s not made of a natural fiber. Recycled fleece is often used in the manufacturing of clothing items like soft-soled baby shoes, diaper covers, and outwerwear.
These are just a few of the different types of eco-clothing currently available on the market. There are still other types of eco-clothing out there.
When you’re shopping, make sure to check clothing labels to see what your new garments are made of. You can be both environmentally and socially responsible by purchasing and wearing eco-clothing.
